Top 5 Comics August 5th 2015

Here we go, another week of comics so that means a top five is coming. Anyways I'm really surprised by the lack of DC stuff this week for me, and all the Marvel stuff I got. Here we go:

1. Green Lantern #43 - I'm loving where this arc is going and interested in what Black Hand's motives are.

2. Groot #3 - A very fun team up between Silver Surfer and Groot.

3. Giant Size Little Marvel AvX #3 - I love the shenanigans Skottie Young is writing here. Both factions go over the top to bring these twins to their respected factions. Plus Young's art is amazing!

4. Batman Beyond #3 - I like what Dan Jurgens is doing to make this world so similar to the animated show but at the same time different.

Ultimate End #4 - Bagley's art was the highlight for me.

Mighty No. 9 Pushed to 2016

Days after Comcept's other Kickstarter game Red Ash was fully funded by Fuze, Mighty No. 9 has quietly been pushed back to 2016. No word from the developer Comcept or publisher Deep Silver. While I never did fund the game on Kickstarter, I can't help but feel a little upset about yet another delay to the game, as I had planned to buy it on its release date. Mighty No. 9 was originally set to be released April 2015, and was pushed back to September 15th 2015 but only on PS4/PS3, PC, Wii U, Xbox 360/Xbox One, leaving the PS Vita/3DS port to be delayed. Let's not forget Comcept showed off a speedrun of the first level and was met with negative criticism. Is this game getting pushed back to fix up the game or so the game can be released on all platforms on the same day?

Thoughts on Playstation Plus August 2015

Microsoft wasn't the only ones to announce what free games there members will be getting in the month of August. Thanks to the Playstation Blog, Sony announced what free games their Playstation Plus members will receive next month. The games are as follows:

PS4
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
Limbo
Sound Shapes
Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones

PS3
God of War Ascension
Sound Shapes
Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones
CastleStorm

PS Vita
CastleStorm
Sound Shapes
Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones

Yeah I can't help but feel let down with another month of PS Plus. Say what you want about PS Plus whether you like this month or not, the quality of games have definitely dipped since PS Plus became a thing you had to have when the PS4 came out. I don't mind if PS4 is getting indie games every month though. That's expected, the console has been out almost two years. So I don't think any AAA game should come out yet. Maybe in an another three years. PS Vita is kind of in the same boat as PS4 as I don't mind indie games on my Vita. In fact I think indie games are best played on PS Vita.

My beef is with PS3's games this month. I'm happy God of War Ascension is coming, it's a good game and a major title, but where are some other major third party games that can be given out? The PS3 has been out quite awhile so there's really no reason why major games can't be given out. Stick with the indie stuff for the Vita and PS4.

But I will say, I'm glad Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is coming out. I have Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for Xbox 360 and I enjoyed it quite much. Especially in co-op. Limbo is another great game. If you haven't played yet don't miss this opportunity next month.

Thoughts on Games With Gold August 2015

Courtesy of Major Nelson, Microsoft has officially unveiled the free games you get next month with you Xbox Live subscription. The games are as follows:

Xbox 360
Metro 2033
Metro Last Light

Xbox One
Metail Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes
How to Survive

Really excited for the 360 side of things this month. Metro is one of those games I always wanted to try. I mean I have Metro 2033 on Steam but I never played it. But now that Microsoft is giving two games away from the series, I don't see why I shouldn't play them.

Over on Xbox One, I'm happy we're getting Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes. I didn't get the chance to snag it through PS Plus so I can't skip downloading this two hour game this time around. Not sure about How to Survive, I saw some gaemplay and it doesn't look bad, but I don't think it'll be a game I care for in the long run.

Overall, I happy with what Microsoft has been giving Gold members as of late for Xbox 360. Some top quality game should be expected from the Xbox 360 side of gaming.

The Square Rassin' Circle 7/25/15

So Battleground happened this week, and overall it was a very predictable Pay-Per-View event, with a (for the most part) uninteresting card. I liked Wyatt vs Roman, it felt like the feud was nicely built. Plus it looks like the Wyatt Family is back together (which they should have never broken up to begin with) so that's cool. It's only a matter of time until we see Rowan in the family again; that is once he returns from his injury. We also got Cena-Owens III. The two put on a great show, but I can't help but feel creative messed up the decision of the match. Kevin Owens should have won this match, when KO dropped the title to Finn Balor in Beast in the East, we all knew this was so WWE could bring him on up from NXT to main roster, and currently Owens looked like the only competitor worthy of taking the belt away from Cena. Rusev can't do it since he's what lost three ppv matches against Cena in a row. Cesaro can't because rumor has it Vince doesn't like him, and Ziggler is kayfabe gone. There's really no one who comes to mind on the main roster other than Owens that could have taken that United States championship from Cena. Watching this past week's Raw, it looks like creative's plan for Cena is to have Rollins and Cena to go at it at SummerSlam in a title vs title match. To finally have Cena become a 16 time champion. No thanks for that.

WWE has really been hyping this "revolution" going on in the main roster for the Divas. At Battleground, we saw Charlotte pick up the win in a triple threat match, and it was actually a solid match. The divas were given plenty of time in that match. Fast forward to Monday, and the divas had two matches on the show. That's right, TWO MATCHES!!! I'm hoping WWE has some good long term plans for the divas, and start having them in quality stuff like the Knockouts and the NXT women. Speaking of the NXT women's division, I wonder how much longer before Sasha drops her title to one of the competitors on NXT. I'm also wondering who will be front and center of the women's division now that three of their big ones (Becky, Sasha, and Charlotte) are on the main roster. I'm thinking the division will now revolve around Bayley, Emma, Dana Brooke, Eva Marie, and hopefully Alexa Bliss or Carmella.

Another big thing to spin out from Battleground was the Undertaker returning! His target? Well you may know him as the one in 22-1 Brock Lesnar. Yeah I was pretty surprised in seeing Taker at Battleground interfering in Brock and Rollin's match. The dirtsheet's were reporting Undertaker and Sting would be at SummerSlam so I thought for sure they'd fight so WWE can further emphasis on SummerSlam being their summer Wrestlemania. So Undertaker came back because he's not happy with all the bragging Paul did for Brock when he defeated Undertaker at WM. It was pretty cool seeing them brawl on Monday and all of the locker room having to stop them. I'm glad WWE is giving these to a rematch.

Moving on to TNA, not much happened this week. We got like three matches on the 2 hour show with a lot of talking and TNA showing a full replay of the King of the Mountain match at this year's Slammiversary (thanks to the whole Hernandez sistuation). TNA finally announced (on tv) Jeff Jarrett going to the TNA HoF. I'm happy for Jeff, when TNA announced they were going to have a Hall of Fame a few years back, I immediately thought Jeff Jarrett should definitely be inducted because he is one of the founders of this organization wrestling fans love. Matt Hardy won a number one contender's match against Bobby Roode. That's cool and all, but I can't help but feel bad about the current TNA roster. They lost a lot of top guys, so I can't help but wonder who will be on the main event scene. Lashley is part time thanks to his Bellator gig, I think Roode will be gone for a little bit for the GFW tapings, Aries/Magnus/Storm/MVP all left, Angle is injured, Jeff...well I'm not sure if he's still injured. So who is there to really fight EC3? I'm thinking some main players in the meantime could consist of Bram, Mr. Anderson, Drew Galloway, and Matt Hardy.

This week was an important week over on ROH. ROH just hit there 200th TV episode and had their Death Before Dishonor iPPV. There send off show was a little cool to see since it was mostly recap of important things to happen on TV. So as someone who hasn't spent a lot of time watching ROH TV it was nice to see some major things that occured. Plus the send off match was a lot of fun to watch. We had the House of Truth vs ODB, The Briscoes, and Roderick Strong. I didn't get to see their iPPV yet but I'm looking forward to Lethal vs Strong and The Addiction defending their belts.

Let's not forgot about the wrestling world going crazy over Hulk Hogan this past Friday. Apparently in an old radio recording, Hogan called one of Brooke's ex the 'n' word. WWE found out about this and terminated Hulk from his contract. So no more guest appearances from the Hulkster on Raw, his merchandise is off wwe.com, Hogan is now removed from WWE 2K16 the video game, off Tough Enough as a judge, Curtis Axel lost his Axelmania gimmick, the WWE are making sure Hulk Hogan never existed. Heck even TNA jumped on the bandwagon of Hogan never existing. I can't say I agree with Hogan for using the word, but I also feel like WWE is blowing this way out of proportions by giving him the Benoit treatment.

Top Comics of the Week July 22nd 2015

Kind of a slow week for me. But still DC managed to have some quality comics this week.

Justice League 3001 #2 - Lot's of fun going on in this series. You'll probably start reading this issue with a smile and end this issue with a smile. The back up FAQ's were a nice addition too. Had a Deadpool like vibe to it.

The Flash #42 - The story is getting interesting here. I'm liking how Zoom is messing with the Allen's. It was pretty cool to see Daniel West getting mentioned. As I'm sure you the reader is probably curious on how there are two Reverse Flash characters.

Teen Titans #10 - While I do love what Pfeifer is doing in this arc on Superboy, and this was a great addition to the arc I'm hoping, this gets wrapped up soon. I don't want this arc to drag. Oh yeah Pfeifer touches on how exactly Bart was there, as I'm sure people wanted to know how after the end of Lobdell's run or probably don't care because it's still not the real Bart Allen.

Justice League Gods and Monsters Review

(spoilers below)

After nine years, Bruce Timm returns to Justice League! But how is his return to the Justice League? Now this isn't a continuation of Justice League/Justice League Unlimited. No, this is it's own thing. Throughout most of the movie we are shown the Trinity's background/origin. The Trinity being Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Superman's origin is pretty close to the usual origin story told. Krypton is dying, Baby Superman is sent on a ship and sent to Earth to be picked up by a couple. The key differences here are Superman's biological parents are General Zod and Lara Van El, and Superman's earth parents are a Mexican immigrant couple. Superman's earth name is Hernan Guerra, and can be a little quick tempered.

Moving onto our Batman in this universe, we are told the story of Kirk Langstrom. Yeah you know Kirk, the guy known as Man-Bat! Anyways Kirk is a scientist who is best friends with Will Magnus, (the creator of the Metal Men) a fellow scientist. The two are in a bit of a love triangle thanks to Tina, Will's girlfriend, who clearly shows signs of interest in Kirk and who Kirk seems to really care for. Kirk is battling cancer and believes the only way to get cured of it is by getting injecting by a bat formula he created. Kirk becomes a vampire, who is fast, can fly, and has no problem sucking the blood of his enemies and killing them.

Then there's Wonder Woman. Whose name is Bekka and is the daughter of New Genesis ruler Highfather. Bekka is set to marry Darkseid's son Orion on Apokolips to set a peace treaty between the two sides. The marriage was a trap as Highfather planned to kill Darkseid and all of his disciples. Of the three origins, I've gotta say, this Earth's Wonder Woman had pretty cool back story. It was a nice twist to see the Gods of New Genesis portrayed as villains here, and the people of Apokolips as good.

People around the world are having trust issues with the Justice League. Due to the fact they have no problem killing the bad guys (if they find it necessary). Anyways people believe it will only be a matter of time until they go rogue. Meanwhile the people have their doubts, we see three robots go after Victor Fries, Ray Palmer, and and Silas Stone. All three were scientist and were each killed in a specific way. Fries death showed bite marks on the neck, Palmer was sliced in half, as well as his car, and had a female footprint dented into the side of his car. Silas Stone along with his son Victor Stone were burned alive. Kirk notices each death was made to look like Superman, Wonder Woman, and himself committed the crime, right before the media finds out and leaks it.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie, I believe most of the origins (I'm looking at you Superman) felt fresh. The animation was top notch and most of the voice acting was great (aside from Darkseid). I'd say the only let down for me in this movie was the reveal of who was behind everything. Oh and did I mention the Metal Men are here?! That was cool to see.

Should you watch Justice League Gods and Monsters?

YES!

Top 5 Comics July 15th 2015

A lot of good stuff this week. Ranging from Bat-God and the Darkseid/Anti Monitor War, to Martian Manhunter kicking some serious ass. Unfortunately no Marvel this week for me.

1. Justice League #42 - Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok are really throwing everything they can for this arc. Pretty cool to see Batman finally figuring out who The Joker really is thanks to his new God powers.

2. Dr. Fate #2 - Had you told me months ago Levitz was writing Doctor Fate, I probably would have told you I wasn't interested. Now if you did, I'd say it's one of the best new books launched with DCYou. Khalid is a very likable character who reminds me of Peter Parker.

3. Martian Manhunter #2 - J'onn put up a great fight with the League this issue. Superman ddn't really seem lke Superman though.

4. Black Canary #2 - Not as good as the first issue. But Dinah still comes off as a strong leader.

5. Robin: Son of Batman #2 - I found this issue a little confusing to read in my first go through but nonetheless, Gleason continues to write a great Damian solo that perfectly captures Damian's voice. I'm not a 100% sure what his  plans with Nobody are but I'm not quite sold on the character yet.

Marvel Announces Avengers #0

It looks like DC (here and here) isn't the only one making announcements at this year's San Diego Comic Con. Marvel has announced on October 14 they will release Avengers #0. Avengers #0 will contain short stories for The Ultimates, Squadron Supreme, Uncanny Avengers, All New All Different Avengers, New Avengers, and A-Force.

I'm glad Marvel announced this. Other than A-Force, I'm looking to pick up each of these books, and for us to get taste of what to expect from the writer/artist is even better. It worked well when DC was transitioning the New 52 to DCYou after Convergence with their Divergence issues. I'm sure Marvel will get it to work too.

DC Announced 3 Convergence Spin-Offs Coming This Year

DC has been releasing news left and right today! On top of Batman and Robin Eternal and Robin War coming, DC unveiled to IGN that three books from their Convergence event will spin off and get there own series. The series are Superman: Lois and Clark, Titans Hunt, and Telos. Here are the solicits for each series:

Following the epic events of CONVERGENCE, here are the adventures of the last son and daughter of Krypton and Earth as they try to survive in a world not their own. But can they keep this world from suffering the same fate as their own? Can this Superman stop the villains he once fought before they are created on this world? What is Intergang, and why does Lois’s discovery of it place everyone she loves in jeopardy? And what will happen when their nine-year-old son learns the true identity of his parents?

CONVERGENCE is over, but the ripples are still being felt, especially by a young precog named Lilith. What are these visions she’s having of a Teen Titans team the world never knew? And why does she feel compelled to seek out Dick Grayson, Roy Harper, Donna Troy and an Atlantean named Garth and warn them that something dark and sinister is coming after them? Who are Mal, Gnarrk, Hank Hall and Dawn Granger, and what is their connection to the others—and to the fate of every soul on Earth? This is the Secret History of the TEEN TITANS!

The villain of the world-shattering CONVERGENCE event stars in his own new series! Set loose from his planetary tether at the end of the best-selling CONVERGENCE, Telos finds himself free and able to traverse space and time via a sliver of Brainiac’s powers. As this epic begins, he embarks on an odyssey, journeying across time and space in search of his past.

Superman was definitely one of the titles that deserved to get an ongoing after Convergence. Dan Jurgens' voice of Superman was consistent and his story was excellent. DC announcing him coming back on board for Superman is an instabuy for me. Then there's Jeff King returning to write a Telos series. I'm not interested in this at all. Sorry King but Telos was never interesting in the main Convergence series. He proved to be a very underwhelming villain. Titans Hunt definitely has my interest. It's just a little confusing to me that  the cover has the New 52 characters around a tombstone, and pre 52 version of the Titans looking below at them. I'm going to need more info from the writer on this one to get an understanding of what exacly is going on here.

Telos will be shipped out on October 7th by Jeff King and Carl Pagulayan/Jason Paz, Superman: Lois and Clark on October 14th by Dan Jurgens and Lee Weeks, and Titans Hunt on October 21st Dan Abnett and Paulo Siqueira.

DC Announces Robin War and Batman and Robin Eternal

It's San Diego Comic Con weekend, and what that means for us comics fans is major announcements to be announced. This year marks the 75th anniversary of Robin, and DC just had to announce something for everyone's favorite Boy Wonder. Today DC announced that the sequel to Batman Eternal will release on October 7th. It will be called Batman and Robin Eternal. Scott Synder and James Tynion IV will be lead writers, and will be joined by Steve Orlando, Tim Seeley, Ed Brisson, Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Geneieve Valentine. Plus Tony Daniel, Scott Eaton, and Paul Pelletier will be on art duties.

The other set of news DC unveiled for Robin is there will be a month long crossover starting in December called Robin War. It will tie in We Are Robin, Robin: Son of Batman, and Gotham Academy.

I'm actually excited for both these titles. Let me start on Robin War, I don't care for the group of kids trying to be Robin in We Are Robin, but based off the teaser DC supplied, it looks like Damian will take them head on by himself. So if Damian has enough "beef" to take these guys on solo, I definitely want to tune in.

Then there's Batman and Robin Eternal. I enjoyed the first run of Eternal, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one too. Plus based off the cover it looks like Dick will actually be in this one. What role he plays, I don't know but I'm excited he's back interacting with the rest of the Bat-Family.

Top 5 Comics July 8th 2015

Somewhat of a short week for me. Nothing on my Marvel pull this week either.

1. Batman/Superman #22 -Unlike last month's issue, we are focused more on the partnership between Clark and Gordon. Pak also put in a lot from Gordon's perspective as well.

2. Batman #42 -New villain being built up, and more of Jim learning the ropes of being "Batman".We see what Bruce is up to, and Bat Truck is official!

3. Justice League of America #2- Still interested in where Hitch takes this arc. Characterization felt better this month on characters.

4. Red Hood/Arsenal #2 -This book isn't taking itself too seriously anymore. It's not a bad thing but I don't think Red Hood should be featured like this. The game fighting scene were fun though.

5. Earth 2 Society #2 -Other than the art, nothing good here.

Why I'm excited for No Man's Sky

At the E3 2014 Playstation press conference, we were shown a trailer for a brand new IP from Hello Games called No Man's Sky. We were shown you, the player walking around a planet called Oria V. We see what kind of planets and animals exist right before the player takes of into his ship and flies outer space next to some other ships. We eventually see a dogfight and the trailer ends.

Initially I didn't care for what I saw. It was a mix of things ranging from I didn't quite understand what kind of game it was, what I do in the game, and how I'm reminded how much I didn't like Proteus (which is an open exploration game). Anyways come E3 2015, we were shown a live demo and the million dollar question had finally shed some light on the game for me (and possible others as well). That question being "what do we actually do in this game?" While Sean Murray couldn't really show off too much of the game due to time restraints, he did get to say there's trading, fighting, exploring, and survival in No Man's Sky. After that presentation I felt a lot more excited for this game because I got a better idea of what to expect.

Since this year's E3 I've been looking up news on the game to see what other features and stuff are in the game. Some of the things that excite me are how big this game is. This universe is MASSIVE! In fact it will take someone 5 Billion years just to explore every planet. Next thing I like is the level of freedom we get here. The story is we all want to get to the "center of the universe" but how we get there and how long it takes us is entirely up to us. It's kind of like Minecraft. There's no right way to play Minecraft, you can either try to survive or play creative. You make your own story, and I like how No Man's Sky is trying to accomplish here. Some other cool stuff includes everyone starts in a different world when you boot up the game for the first time, and you can intervene and help factions in dogfights outer space.

As a guy that loves reading comics, some of the concepts that are in No Man's Sky reminds me of Guardians of the Galaxy or Green Lantern. With the robots on patrol throughout the universe wanting to take you down if your mschivious. Bounties can be put out on you, and there's a space station.

I don't know how much more Hello Games is going to put into the game, but if there were alien civilizations on some planets and they put in interactions I think it would be a nice addition. They could try and teach us there culture and their planets history. Plus let there be consequences. Let's say some other player goes to a peaceful planet long before I do and causes lot's of chaos, and then I come to this planet and they no longer trust outsiders and causes conflict for me. Those kind of little things wouldn't be bad to have.

Anyways whenever No Man's Sky releases, I definitely want to check it out for my PS4.

Thoughts on New DC Limited Series

Today DC has announced in 2016 we'll be getting 8 new limited series. We don't know who will be on art duties from these series but we do know who the writers are for each book. These are the following characters/teams who will get series:

  • Metal Men - Written by Len Wein
  • Firestorm - Written by Gerry Conway
  • Swamp Thing - Written by Len Wein
  • Metamorpho - Written by Aaron Lopresti
  • Katana: Cult of the Kobra - Written by Mike W. Barr
  • Raven - Written by Marv Wolfman
  • Poison Ivy: Circle of Life & Death - Written by Amy Chu
  • Sugar & Spike - Written by Keith Giffen
There's not too much I care for here. However, I do know I would like to check out Metal Men and that's thanks to Geoff Johns, and Firestorm could be good. After my exposure to him on The CW's The Flash, Future's End, and a little on Justice League I strongly believe Firestorm has a good concept and could have cool villains to go with his series.

I also like the idea of DC doing limited series. This could give other lesser know characters a chance to shine if DC plans to do more limited series in the future.

Thoughts on Official All New All Different Marvel Titles Reveal

It has been a few days now since Marvel official unveiled a chunk of their All New All Different Marvel titles. A total of 45 have been revealed, and we are expecting at least another 15 to be announced. It's no secret I've been wanting to jump onto Marvel's main universe bandwagon when ANAD Marvel begins in October, but was there anything from this reveal that actually got me excited? You bet there was! I want to start with what titles I cannot wait to read.

  • Spider-Man
  • Amazing Spider-Man
  • Invincible Iron Man
  • All New All Different Marvel
  • Spider-Man 2099
  • Daredevil
  • Extraordinary X-Men
  • Deadpool
  • Ultimates
Before any Spider-Man titles were revealed, I all ready knew I would want to read them. Spider-Man is to Marvel what Batman is to DC. I've had plenty of exposure on Spider-Man through TV, video games, movies, that I just care enough to read about him. There's also the fact Bendis and Pichelle  are returning for Miles, Miguel has a sweet looking costume, and Slott's direction reminds me of that grey steel suit Spider-Man we've seen in Spider-Man the Animated Series.

Invincible Iron Man looked great too. Marquez has amazing art, and I firmly believe Bendis is capable of writing a Tony that sounds like Robert Downey Jr. Based off his Tony seen in the Ultimate Universe.

Daredevil was going to be on my pull without a doubt thanks to the show on Netflix. I've since gone back and read Bendis' run on the character due to overall fan appreciation of it. Charles Soule is set to write him, and I've read is Superman/Wonder Woman work to at least come to the conclusion I like his work.

Extraordinary X-Men was a nice surprise and something I'm super excited for. I've always wanted to read an X-Men title on the main Marvel Universe that closely resembled an X-Men cast full of characters I know based off the cartoons. With the cast of Old Man Logan, Marvel Girl (Jean from the past) Ice Man (the adult one) Storm, Nightcrawler, and Colossus, it doesn't get any closer than that for my hopes of an X-Men comic.

Deadpool. I'd love a little humor, no better place to start than the Merc with a mouth.

Initially when I heard an Ultimate title was coming to ANAD Marvel I was excited, but then I saw the team and I was disappointed because none of those characters are from the UU. I was a little let down, I wanted to read about Black Panther, and I just didn't know the rest of the cast. I love me Rocafort's art, and I thought wow that Blue Marvel guy looks cool (probably thanks to Rocafort), and then I read Al Ewing's interview with Comic Alliance and I liked the vision/direction he's aiming for. The more I kept reading about these characters from others online, Ewing's interview, and Rocafort's art I grew more excited about reading this.

Now there were also some other titles that were announced that I'm not too interested in. Could be because I'm not interested in the character, or I just don't care for the direction they're going for. Anyways here's that list:
  • Spider-Woman
  • Web Warriors
  • Howling Commandos of Shield
  • Ant-Man
  • Silk
  • Uncanny X-Men
  • All New Wolverine
  • Old Man Logan
  • Hawkeye
  • Sam Wilson, Captain America
  • Illuminati
  • Scarlet Witch
  • Drax
  • Angela Asgard's Assassin
  • The Mighty Thor
  • Agents of Shield
  • The Vision
  • Uncanny Inhuman
  • Captain Mavel
  • Doctor Strange
  • A-Force
I want to be a little fair towards Vision, Drax, and Angela. I'm sure I'll check out at least one issue but I doubt I'll be reading them long term. Sam Wilson, Cpatina America and The Might Thor fall under I don't care for Foster and Wilson as Thor or Captain America. Illuminati, Howling Commandos of Shield and Agents of Shield all fall under I don't care for plain and simple. Doctor Strange, Silk, Inhumans, Scarlet Witch, Captain Marvel, Spider-Woman, and X-23 (Wolverine) are all characters I'm not interested in. I think I'm just going to stick with Old Man Logan in Extraordinary X-Men. I wanted to read Hawkeye, and Ant Man but I'm not interested in the direction they are going with here. Spider Verse was cool and all but I'm done with this Spider team up which is why I'm not interested in Web Warriors, and finally I don't care for an all female Avenger team or a all villains X team. Which is why I'm skipping A-Force, and Uncanny X-Men.

Now I won't be getting into much detail with titles I'm interested in, but here's what I'll be keeping an eye out for.
  • Howard the Duck (I could use another humor title)
  • Totally Awesome Hulk (I like Pak's work)
  • Contests of Champions (Could be a cool brawling book)
  • Squadron Supreme (Marvel's equivalent to DC's Justice League)
  • Venom Spaceknight (Not sure what to expect but I like Venom)
  • Carnage (I like Carnage but I probably won't stick around too long)
  • All New X-Men (Same reasoning behind Extraordinary X-Men)
  • Uncanny Avengers (Interesting team. Has characters I care for)
  • Karnak (He looks like a bad ass Inhuman)
  • Nova (Closest thing to Green Lantern. However Sean Ryan's Suicide Squad run thus far is terrible)
  • New Avengers (Another odd team. It's nice to see some Young Avengers reuniting, and Clint though)
  • Star-Lord (Thanks Chris Pratt!)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy (Thanks GotG movie!)
  • Ms Marvel (I want to see if she's as good of a character as people say she is)
  • Spider-Gwen (I liked her concept in Edge of Spider Verse)
October can't come soon enough for me. I hope at some point between now and October, an Iron Fist, and The Punisher books get announced. Otherwise so far I'm excited for what Marvel will be putting later this year.

Top 5 Comics July 1st 2015

Really busy day today. A lot was on my pull so it made my choices pretty hard. Honorable mentions to Amazing Spider-Man #19.1, Green Arrow #42, and Giant Size Little Marvel AvX.

1. Secret Wars #41 -Lot's of action. We see just how powerful God Doom is, and some action from the 616 characters.
2. Bizarro #2 -Kudos to DC for expanding there humorous line. Bizarro and Jimmy make a fun duo.
3. Green Lantern #42 - Black Hand is back, 'nuff said.
4. Action Comics #42 -Tensions rise between Superman and the Cops. We see how much Superman can endure before he snaps.
5. Groot #2 -A step up from last month's issue. It's nice we get to see things from Groot's point of view without Rocket stealing the spotlight.

Top 5 Comics June 24th 2015

Another week of DC only (sorry Marvel) but a good week nonetheless to wrap up the first month of the "DC You" initiative.

1. The Flash #41 -Zoom is back, and with a sweet costume! Art was great by Brett Booth. Interested in where Venditti and Jensen take this arc. Henry rounding up some villains he knows from Iron Height's had a Rogue's vibe to it. So overall pretty cool issue.

2. Superman #41- Ever since the Truth arc began this month we've all been wondering what lead Lois to outing Clark as Superman. Could it be the mysterious person texting Clark that will eventually tip off Lois? Whatever the case new writer Yang looks to be cooking up something good.

3. Justice League 3001 #1- More great adventures with this cast, and expect lot's of shenanigans from Clark and the female Guy.

4. Teen Titans #9- We're getting to that point that Teen Titans vs Star Lab's Teen Titans needs to happen all ready.

5. Aquaman #41- It's been about 20 issues since I've read about Arthur (back when John's was still on). Definitely an easy issue to jump into, but I'm not sold on this arc yet. Art was nice though.

Miles Morales joins All New All Different Marvel in new Solo Series

While it should come to no surprise that Miles would walk away post Secret Wars to the new Marvel Universe alive, we also knew he would get his own solo series. Reported by New York Daily, Brian Michael Bendis will continue to write Miles. He will be joined by familiar penciller Sara Pichelli who has worked on Spider-Men and helped co create Miles in Ultimate Fallout #4.

This is great news. I'm pretty sure we all knew Benids wasn't going to let go writing Miles since he created him, and that's fine. Bendis wrote Ultimate Peter for 10 years, and Miles has only been around 4 years so I'm sure we'll have many more adventures with these two. It's good to hear Pichelli is back as she's no stranger with the character. Plus her art style is similar to Marquez , so I'm sure we'll get the same level of quality work here.

Best Show at E3 2015

So today is the last day of E3. Lots of games were announced across Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft shows. Some great games were shown this year like Unravel, For Honor, Gears 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, and much more. Every fan ask themselves this every year at E3, who had the best show? I'm here to say that Microsoft and Sony were tied in the top this year.

Sony and Microsoft dropped a lot of bombs this year that made lots of gamers happy. Some of the highlights from Microsoft included Gears of War 4, backwards compatibility coming to the Xbox One, new IP called Recore, more Halo 5 Guardians footage, Gears Ultimate edition and more. Over on Sony's side we got a new IP called Horizon Zero Dawn, Shenmue III announced, more Uncharted 4 gameplay, Final Fantasy VII Remake announced, and The Last Guardian gameplay. Both shows had something to offer to get fans excited to upgrade to the latest gen (if they haven't already) or show fans who already purchased an Xbox One/PS4 what to expect soon.

Here's the order I'd rank the show's:

1. Microsoft/Sony
3. Ubisoft
4. Bethesda
5. Square Enix
6. Nintendo
7. EA

Ubisoft every year always has something to look forward to, Bethesda and Square Enix had solid shows, but by the time we got to Square's press conference a lot of what they showed was already seen elsewhere. Nintendo lacked anything major this, we've had better Nintendo Direct's than the show we got this year, and EA's was just boring. Too much of a focus on sport games really killed it for me.

As E3 wraps up go ahead and check out my other blogs for my thoughts on each show. Click here Microsoft Bethesda Sony EA Ubisoft Square Enix Nintendo. Also go ahead and check out my E3 predictions to see if I was right about my predictions and click here to find out the top five games I was most interested in this year at E3.

Until next time E3!

Top 5 Comics June 17th 2015

Another week which means new comic releases. Nothing this week for any Marvel pulls from me. So this sort of a DC edition of the top five comics this week.

1. Black Canary #1 -Dinah Drake (Or D.D. as they say throughout this issue) came off as a strong leader, with a positive outlook on her future success. The art by Wu definitely fit the style of the story.

2. Robin: Son of Batman #1 -I'm still surprised how much this read like Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason's Batman and Robin run. Gleason nailed the voice of Damian.

3. Dr. Fate #1 -The new Dr. Fate has a lot going on for it. A great supporting cast, Khalid is likable, and looks to have good Egyptian history here.

4. Martian Manhunter #1 -J'onn showed us he's just as good of a hero as Superman, maybe even better. J'onn came off strong.

5. Superman/Wonder Woman #18 -While not a whole of action, we see where Diana and Clark's relationship stand.

Top 5 New games announced at E3 2015

1. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands -That trailer shown was as epic as the Watch Dogs and Division trailer. The story sounds intriguing, and the gameplay looked great.

2. Horizon Zero Dawn -What's not to like from this Open world RPG, that's written by the lead writer of Fallout New Vegas, a Witcher 3 quest designer, and the beautiful graphic power from Guerrilla Games?

3. Dishonored 2 - Had a good first entry to the series, glad to see it come back.

4. Recore -I liked the cinematic trailer given, and what to see more of what this game is about.

5. Unravel -Very cute game, and looks like it'll be as good as LittleBigPlanet.

Square Enix E3 Recap and Thoughts June 16th 2015

After three years of not holding a E3 Press Conference, Square is set to return to E3 with their very own press conference. What was on the show, how did it fair?

-Just Cause 3 gameplay
-Trailer for a new NieR
-Same Final Fantasy VII trailer seen at Sony's Press Conference
-Rise of the Tomb Raider trailer
-Same World of Final Fantasy trailer shown at Sony's Press Conference
-Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness comes to North America and Europe
-Lot's of mobile stuff (Tomb Raider Go, Kingdom Hearts Unchained Key, and Hitman Sniper)
-Quick montage of game trailers showing Triad Wars and Final Fantasy XV
-New JRPG project created by new Square company Tokyo RPG Factory called Project Setsuna
-New Hitman trailer
-Kingdom Hearts III gameplay trailer
-Deus Ex Mankind Divided gameplay trailer

Pretty solid show from Square I think they played it safe. A lot of what was seen on this show was seen on either Microsoft's or Sony's show. So I wish Square would have shown more of something like Triad Wars instead of the quick thing it got. Definitely nice to see an update on Kingdom Hearts 3, and seeing more of Deus Ex was also a plus.

But damn it Square why are you making another Kingdom Hearts mobile game?! Have you not learned anything for Kingdom Hearts Coded?!

Nintendo E3 Recap and Thoughts June 16th 2015

The final day of E3 press conferences begin today. We start off with their Nintendo's Digital Event. Here's what they had:

-Star Fox Zero gameplay for Wii U
-Legend of Zelda Triforce Heroes gameplay for 3DS
-Hyrule Warriors coming to 3DS called Hyrule Warriors Legends
-Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer for 3DS gameplay
-Animal Crossing Amiibo for Wii U gameplay
-Mario and Luigi Paper Jam for 3DS gameplay
-Mario Tennis Ultra Smash gameplay for Wii U
-Metroid Prime Federation Force gameplay for 3DS
-Xenoblade Chronicles X gameplay for Wii U
-Skylanders Super Chargers gameplay
-More gameplay from Super Mario Maker for Wii U
-Yokai Watch gameplay for 3DS
-Fire Emblem Fates for 3DS
-More gameplay on Yoshi's Wooly World

Are you thinking "man what a lackluster show"? Well I'd agree with you on that. I'm no Star Fox fan but I'm sure plenty were excited for that, the only thing that really "wowed" me that was new, was Nintendo announcing Mario and Luigi Paper Jam. It's the best of both Mario RPG's crossing over in this game that I'm sure will have tons of funny moments. It was nice seeing more Yoshi's Wooly World and Super Mario Maker though.

There was nothing really major that came out of this year's show. E3 should be the show where all the big stuff is thrown right at you, everything on this list seems like something Nintendo would announce on a Nintendo Direct. The skits they did in between each game were nice but I wish Nintendo went back to actually being at E3. I feel like their announcements there were on a much grander scale.

Sony E3 Results and Thoughts June 15th 2015

Sony wrapped up day two of E3 with their press conference. What secrets were unveiled, were there any new Vita games? Find out here with my thoughts to follow.

-The Last Guardian gameplay
-Street Fighter V trailer
-Call of Duty Black Ops III, PS gets DLC first, and a beta is coming
-Disney Infinity showcasing Star Wars, and an exclusive Boba Fett toy for Playstation
-No Man's Sky gameplay
-Shenmue 3 is getting Kickstarted (and is being funded by Sony)
-Media Molecule unveils new IP Dreams with a taste of gameplay
-Destiny expansion The Taken King trailer
-World of Final Fantasy trailer for PS4 and Vita
-Final Fantasy VII Remake
-Guerrilla Games new IP Horizon Zero Dawn unveiled. Trailer and gameplay shown
-Assassin's Creed Syndicate gameplay trailer showcasing Evie
-Hitman trailer
-Indie games from Devolver Digital (Ronin, Eitr, Mother Russia Bleeds, and Crossing Souls)
-Batman Arkham Knight gameplay from PS exclusive Scarecrow levels
-Campo Santo's new game Firewatch trailer
-Star Wars Battlefront gameplay
-Project Morpheus news and Playstation Vue news
-Uncharted 4 A Thieves End gameplay

So yeah, a lot happened much like the Microsoft event! Let me state the obvious, Uncharted 4 looked beyond good. The release for that game cannot come soon enough. Now I want to talk about Guerrilla Game's new game Horizon Zero Dawn. For those that don't know, Guerrilla is known for their Killzone games. Their latest entry to that series was 2013's Killzone Shadow Fall which released on PS4. Two years later they are back but with an open world game. Just days before I heard about the project so I was looking forward to what the game was. From what I saw in the trailer gameplay looked like it will be as fluid as Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor/Arkham series/Assassin's Creed series. The game sure looked pretty too.

Then there was also Dreams from Media Molecule which had a interesting concept you use your PS4 controller to "draw" dreams to make a world and share with others. I need to see more but I have faith with MM because of their track record. While not a new game, we got more details on No Man's Sky. I liked that there's more to do than exploring. Like you can be on one side of the galaxy fighting a war, or on another side just exploring a new planet, and Hello Games were not kidding when they said how big No Man's Skies universe is.

I'm not surprised Sony didn't have any 1st party news for PS Vita, heck hardly any news. IGN has since reported Sony has no AAA games in the making for the Vita. Leaving it up to 3rd party to support the handheld. Which is a shame as the system is great and has plenty of potential for great console quality exclusives.

Ubisoft E3 Recap and Thoughts 2015 June 15th 2015

After a yet another boring EA press conference we are followed up with a Ubisoft press conference. Those have always proven to be fun and have great games shown throughout the show, but hosted by Aisha Tyler (damn it Ubisoft again!?) Anyways here's the run down of the show.

-New South Park game coming called South Park: The Fractured But Whole trailer
-A new IP called For Honor gameplay and trailer
-The Crew Wild Run expansion trailer
-Trials Fusion Awesome Level Max expansion trailer
-The Division gameplay
-New IP Anno 2205 gameplay and trailer
-Just Dance 2016 and a quick concert from Jason Derulo
-Rainbow Six Siege trailer with a beta starting in September 24th
-Trackmania Turbo gameplay
-Assassin's Creed Syndicate trailer
-New open world Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands gameplay trailer

Overall great show from Ubisoft, didn't really care for Trackamania, but man oh man! That Ghost Recon Wildlands gameplay was amazing! For Honor looked like a great new IP as well. You get to play as a Viking, Samurai, or a Knight in a 4 vs 4 brawl. Also can Jason Vandenberghe come back next year? That guy just looked plain awesome and seemed pretty cool. Now that's a host I want to see for Ubisoft press conferences!

EA E3 Results and Thoughts June 15th 2015

How did EA fair after last year's lackluster show? I'm here to tell you what went on and my thoughts on the show.

-Mass Effect Andromeda teaser trailer
-Unravel trailer and gameplay
-Need for Speed trailer and gameplay
-Star Wars Old Republic Knights of the Fallen trailer
-Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 gameplay, you can transfer all your characters from the first game, and free DLC
-Emphasis on mobile games such as Star Wars and Minions
-Lot's of sport games (Madden NFL 16, NHL 16, Fifa 16, and NBA Live 16)
-Mirror's Edge Catalyst gameplay and trailer
-Star Wars Battlefront gameplay

Let's start with what I liked, the Mass Effect Andromeda teaser trailer and Star Wars Battlefront gameplay. While it's been no secret the next installment of Mass Effect was in the make, at that point we haven't seen any gameplay, or trailers, just rumors and speculation. EA showing something this year to bring the hype was much welcomed, but by next year I'm hoping we can see something more. In the meantime though it'll give me some more time to play the Mass Effect trilogy which I got last month from Playstation's Flash Sale for $5.

Now we've heard lot's of stuff what Dice/EA have planned for the new Star Wars Battlefront game, we've even seen concept art and a cinematic trailer, but today was the day. The day we got some Star Wars Battlefront gameplay footage! All I can say is I liked what I saw and am looking forward to this game.

One particular game stood out for me and it was Unravel. It looked like such a cute game, and I definitely got LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway vibes from it. I liked the how the game looked and how it's played.

I don't know what hit a lower point in the show for me, the talk on mobile gaming or all the sport game coverage. I can't even go into much detail on how boring all of that was.

Finally I like the where they're going with the Mirror's Edge reboot. Gameplay looks nice and story sounds even better than the original. I wish we could see some of the combat in the game, because the fighting in the original was atrocious.

Overall slightly better show this year by EA but still boring in the end.

Microsoft E3 Results and Thoughts June 15th 2015

Day two of E3! It's going to be a packed day of news, we've got press conferences from Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, and Sony. Today Microsoft opened the show with their hour and a half press conference and here's a quick run down of what occured:

-Halo 5 single player, and trailer for Halo's Warzone multiplayer
-New 1st party IP Recore
-More Fallout 4 comes with Fallout 3, and able to download PC mods
-EA Access news
-Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 trailer
-Rainbow Six Siege trailer and comes with Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2
-Another trailer for The Division. Xbox owners get first access to the beta
-The new Elite Xbox One controller
-Backwards compatibility coming to Xbox One
-Dark Souls III trailer
-Gigantic trailer and beta announced
-Rise of the Tomb Raider gameplay
-Quick trailer of a bunch of Indie games with emphasis on Tacoma, Ashen, Beyond Eyes, Ion, and Cuphead
-Rare Replay trailer features 30 Rare titles for $30
-Sea of Thieves trailer (Rare's new game)
-Fable Legends trailer
-Minecraft for Microsoft's Hololens
-Game Preview (Early access to games)
-Forza 6
-Gears Ultimate Edition (GoW 1 remake)
-Gears 4 gameplay

Man that was a lot! Definitely some stuff that caught my eye. Halo 5 without a doubt, and it needs no explanation as to why it was awesome, another than expect what you would from the series. Backwards compatibility was a huge thing that was announced. Back when the Xbox One and Playstation 4 were announced fans were disappointed we couldn't go back and play our old PS3/360 games and it looks like Microsoft wants to fix that. Holiday this year Microsoft plans to bring back your digital purchases or put your 360 discs into your Xbox one so you can play them again. Also Microsoft unveiled their new Xbox One controller, and no not the one that's going to be released with the 1TB Xbox One, this Elite controller has a bunch of customization to it. You can swap analog stick and D-Pad, and much much more. Games Preview was a cool feature they plan to add. The same concept of Steam's Early Access you pay and support the game as the game officially releases. Gears 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Cuphead had some great gameplay looking forward to those three.

Now I'm interested in seeing more of Recore. Microsoft gave us a a cinematic trailer, and showed us a female lead traveling with her A.I. companion as they take on evil. The A.I. is controlled by a blue orb, so if he self destructs you you simply take the orb and put it in another robot. I want to see gameplay of this, is this a third person shooter, first person shooter, and action game? Whatever it is, I want to see more!

Nothing really came as a low point to me in the conference, I'm not really a racing so I didn't care for the Forza part of the show, but I will agree it looked nice.
